Industrialisation & Production

From Developed Product to Controlled Manufacturing

Industrialisation and production are the phases where product decisions become irreversible. Design choices, regulatory assumptions and manufacturing processes must come together in a controlled, repeatable and compliant way.

At 2M Engineering, industrialisation and production are not treated as downstream execution, but as an integral part of product ownership. We take responsibility for ensuring that products developed with us can be manufactured reliably, compliantly and at the intended scale.

Production Within Product Ownership

Production at 2M Engineering is always connected to development and certification. We do not operate as a standalone contract manufacturer.

Our role includes:

  • translating development outputs into production-ready designs
  • defining and validating manufacturing processes
  • ensuring alignment with regulatory and quality requirements
  • maintaining traceability from design to manufactured product
  • supporting controlled ramp-up and transfer to higher-volume production when required

This integrated approach reduces risk at the point where products enter real-world use.

ISO 13485–Certified Medical Device Production

2M Engineering operates within an ISO 13485–certified quality management system, enabling controlled production of regulated medical devices.

Within this framework, we support the production of:

  • CE-IVD devices
  • Class I(m), IIa and IIb medical devices

Production activities are aligned with the applicable regulatory pathway, ensuring that manufacturing processes, documentation and quality controls remain consistent with certification requirements.

Industrial & ATEX-Certified Production

In addition to medical devices, we support the industrialisation and production of industrial and environmental sensor products, including solutions requiring ATEX certification.

For these products, industrialisation focuses on:

  • robustness and long-term reliability
  • safety-critical design and manufacturing controls
  • compliance with industrial and hazardous-environment standards

As with medical products, ATEX-certified production is only performed as part of an integrated development and certification trajectory.

Industrialisation: Bridging Prototype and Production

Industrialisation is the phase where prototypes are transformed into products that can be manufactured consistently.

This phase typically includes:

  • design-for-manufacturing and design-for-assembly optimisation
  • validation of production processes and tooling
  • transition from prototype techniques to industrial methods(e.g. injection moulding, production-grade metalworks)
  • verification of performance, repeatability and quality

By addressing these aspects early, industrialisation prevents late-stage redesign and supports predictable scaling.

Production Volumes & Scaling Strategy

2M Engineering is specialised in:

  • small to medium production series (typically up to ~10,000 units)

These volumes are often critical for:

  • market introduction
  • pilot deployments
  • early commercial scaling

For larger volumes, we support a controlled transfer to external manufacturing partners, ensuring that knowledge, quality requirements and regulatory alignment are preserved.

Local Production & Short Feedback Loops

Where possible, we prioritise local production for early and medium-scale manufacturing. Our production network includes facilities in:

  • the Netherlands (Eindhoven region)
  • Belgium
  • Germany

Local production enables:

  • faster feedback and learning cycles
  • better protection of intellectual assets
  • close integration between development, certification and manufacturing
  • rapid iteration where improvements are required

As production scales, this foundation supports a smooth transition to higher-volume manufacturing environments.

Production as Part of a Complete Trajectory

Industrialisation and production at 2M Engineering are always delivered as part of a complete product development trajectory, including:

  • concept and feasibility
  • system architecture and proof
  • product development
  • certification and regulatory alignment

Production is not offered as a standalone service.
This ensures technical coherence, regulatory compliance and predictable product quality from design through manufacturing.

Preparing Your Product for Controlled Production

If you are approaching the point where your product must move from development into controlled manufacturing — and require a partner who understands the full technical, regulatory and production context — we invite you to start a technical conversation.
