Fontys Sporthogeschool en 2M Engineering gaan InspiRun verder door ontwikkelen in samenwerking met Energy Lab. De komende periode gaan deze partners verkennen op welke manier de ontwikkelde conceptversie van deze hardloopapplicatie geïmplementeerd kan worden in de hardloopmarkt.
Binnen deze samenwerking zullen Fontys Sporthogeschool en 2M Engineering een derde testfase starten en zal door de drie partners onder meer gezocht worden naar financiering voor de doorontwikkeling van het InspiRun-concept. Voor de data-analyse zal tevens een beroep gedaan worden op de Technische Universiteit Eindhoven (TU/e).

Living Lab Activ8 is van start!
De missie van het project Living Lab Activ8 is bewegingsarmoede bij senioren te voorkomen door middel van de inzet van de Activ8 activity tracker. Met behulp van de Activ8 worden senioren gestimuleerd meer te bewegen waardoor bepaalde aandoeningen gerelateerd aan sedentair gedrag voorkomen kunnen worden.
De Activ8 staat centraal in dit Living Lab. Deze sensor meet de hoeveelheid activiteit en herkent bewegingspatronen (liggen, zitten, staan, wandelen, lopen en fietsen). Tevens kan de sensor een nauwkeurige vertaling maken van het dagelijkse energieverbruik. Een webomgeving maakt het mogelijk naar wens coaching op afstand te verrichten via het internet, of self-coaching door het stellen van korte en lange termijn doelen. Beweegcoaches kunnen via de webomgeving op maat adviesgeven en dus gericht aan de slag met het bestrijden van inactiviteit. Dit totaalconcept van de Activ8 biedt in potentie een aanpak om bewegingsarmoede te bestrijden.

Kim Bongers PhD at the department of geriatric medicine, Radboud University Medical Center, Nijmegen, The Netherlands is in the last phases of her research about the predictive value of gait speed and maximum step length for falling in community-dwelling older persons. This is part of a bigger theme: fall prevention research for healthy ageing. 2M Engineering supported her research with the development and production of a solution to fully automatic monitor once a week walking speed in peoples homes. Although the results were different from what we had hoped for, it was still a showcase of how 2M Engineering can support research activities with quick prototyping, product development and followup in the field.

Eindhovens Dagblad – Valkenswaard – Good news for diabetics that do not like to prick themselves to determine their bloodglucose levels. 2M Engineering works on a development of an instrument for diabetics to measure their blood glucose values with a laserpen instead of a needle. 2M Engineering received a 50k EURO grant from the European Commission, to do a feasability study. Totally 2m needs 12 million to do the full development and initial market introduction. Plan is to introduce this product in the first half of 2018 depending on available investments.

With the ageing of the society, the incidence of neurological diseases like stroke, Parkinson and Complex Regional Pain syndrome will increase. The socio-economic impact of stroke is very high. Estimated annual costs of stroke in the Netherlands are 1.200 M Euro. For people over 65 years it is the second in ranking after dementia. Parkinson’s disease is also an age-related disorder affecting 120-180 in 100,000 individuals. Syndromes associated with chronification of pain account for about 30% of sick leave of employees, costing several billions of Euros. The incidence is expected to have increased by 45% in 2025.
Currently, therapeutic options for stroke, Parkinson’s disease and neuropathic pain syndromes are sparse, not evidence-based but based on general concepts. The Senior Step study uses a sensing photo-frame developed by 2M to prevent falling at home. Senior Step is part of the national program for elderly care in the Netherlands done by Radbout Academic Hospital Nijmegen. Aim of this program is to improve care for elderly with complex care needs.
With the Senior Step sensing photo frame elderly have a simple self test to measure their own mobility and stability. Next they can improve their health by doing focused exercise. This can help to prevent fall incidents and a more active independent life. This has been proven by the first preliminary results of the Senior Step Study.
Most important results so far:
- Validated self-test for measurement of mobility and risk of falling
- Simple self test by hidden high-tech sensor technology in photo-frame
- Timely intervention when changes in mobility of elderly are observed.
