Wheelchair Sports Performance Monitor

Insight in individual sportperformance is a prerequisite to work on performance improvement. Therefore many athletes make use of measuring equipment. Such equipment is readily available for able-bodied athletes and often at an affordable price, both for amateur and professional athletes. For wheelchair sports there is no suitable system, therefore they have to do with global outcomes as time on, for example, a sprint test. Due to the lack of information on wheelchair specific performance, it is not possible to properly evaluate training methods and materials.

Within the research project RAAKpro the “perfect sport wheelchair” a method is developed to measure wheelchair performance during games and practices, but this method is still expensive and complex. The athletes and coaches who participated in the study immediately saw the great value of the results and would like to see a product that they themselves perform such measurements.

  • Heart rate & ECG measurement sensor – medical grade to optical more consumer oriented

Valdiation of contactless medical sleep sensor with Kempenhaeghe

Joint effort to validate new contactless medical sleep sensor

In a joint effort the technical university of Eindhoven, Livassured, 2M Engineering and Kempenhaeghe work together towards the validation of an innovative  contactless medical sleep sensor. This extremely sensitive sensor can pick up both large signals and also very small signals as required to derive heart rate from the raw pressure signal. Due to this high sensitivity the placement of the sensor is more flexible compared to other solutions.

Intelligent signal processing

By combining the contactless medical sleep sensor with intelligent and reliable signal processing new applications can be enabled not possible with the current consumer oriented bedsensors.

Connected sewerage water level sensor

2M and iSago team up to develop connected sewerage water level sensor for better city water management

Smart distributed sensor technology that continuously measures various water parameters and sends this to a central cloud location where it can be used to do big data analysis, will give insights not possible today. These insights start with a connected sewerage water level sensor and will lead to a better design of city water management and quicker more adequate responses in case of emergency.

Zero maintainance sensor solutions

Idea is to create an easy to install, zero maintenance and affordable connected sewerage water level sensor that also measures a number of other relevant water parameters and sends this information to a central server. The system needs to be self-powered and wirelessly connected using LoRa technology.

Ambulatory wheelchair activity monitoring solution being beta tested

2M has created together with Rijndam rehabilitation center in Rotterdam a special version of the Activ8 activity monitoring (see www.activ8all.com) solution. This ambulatory wheelchair activity monitoring solution is currently being beta tested with patients and physiotherapists.

The solution consists of two activity monitors: one unit is mounted on the wheel of the wheelchair the other unit is worn on the wrist of the person in the wheelchair. By combining the information from wheel and wrist unit, various activity classes can be recognized. There can be recognized if people are pushed (by a person or by motor) if they are manouvring, sitting still, slow or fast driving. So both the user and the physiotherapist get a good view what activities have been done during the day. The underlying algorithms have been medically validated by Erasmus Medical Center and Hogeschool Utrecht.

Photonic Endoscope for better bladder cancer treatment

DTU and Frederiksberg Hospital are heading a European research project, where engineers and medical doctors develop new instruments for detecting bladder cancer for example a photonic endoscope for better bladder cancer treatment. The concept may provide faster and better treatment and large savings for hospitals. Over the next five years, a research team consisting of engineers and medical doctors will be developing new instruments and combine optical methods for imaging the bladder wall in patients with bladder cancer in routine endoscopic examinations.
The goal is to ensure that medical doctors in a matter of seconds may obtain a detailed picture of how deep the cancer cells are growing into the bladder wall, which allows starting of treatment of the bladder cancer immediately. Energy Lab nieuwe partner binnen project InspiRun (in Dutch)

Fontys Sporthogeschool en 2M Engineering gaan InspiRun verder door ontwikkelen in samenwerking met Energy Lab. De komende periode gaan deze partners verkennen op welke manier de ontwikkelde conceptversie van deze hardloopapplicatie geïmplementeerd kan worden in de hardloopmarkt.

Binnen deze samenwerking zullen Fontys Sporthogeschool en 2M Engineering een derde testfase starten en zal door de drie partners onder meer gezocht worden naar financiering voor de doorontwikkeling van het InspiRun-concept. Voor de data-analyse zal tevens een beroep gedaan worden op de Technische Universiteit Eindhoven (TU/e).

Living Lab Activ8 is van start!

De missie van het project Living Lab Activ8 is bewegingsarmoede bij senioren te voorkomen door middel van de inzet van de Activ8 activity tracker. Met behulp van de Activ8 worden senioren gestimuleerd meer te bewegen waardoor bepaalde aandoeningen gerelateerd aan sedentair gedrag voorkomen kunnen worden.

 

De Activ8 staat centraal in dit Living Lab. Deze sensor meet de hoeveelheid activiteit en herkent bewegingspatronen (liggen, zitten, staan, wandelen, lopen en fietsen). Tevens kan de sensor een nauwkeurige vertaling maken van het dagelijkse energieverbruik. Een webomgeving maakt het mogelijk naar wens coaching op afstand te verrichten via het internet, of self-coaching door het stellen van korte en lange termijn doelen. Beweegcoaches kunnen via de webomgeving op maat adviesgeven en dus gericht aan de slag met het bestrijden van inactiviteit. Dit totaalconcept van de Activ8 biedt in potentie een aanpak om bewegingsarmoede te bestrijden.
