Function development
Translating a technical conceptual prototype into a final product solution is an art in itself. First step is about function development of building blocks new to us followed by integration of all technical functions and commercial requirements that make-up the final solution into a product prototype followed by development of the final product. 2M Engineering knows how and understands what is needed to make the right translation.
From function development to final product
Function development and integration is about merging all technical disciplines, user and business requirements into a final solution. Input of the various disciplines needs to be balanced and trade-offs need to be made, so that everything fits together like cogs in a machine. Requirements can be functional, environmental, dimensional, user interaction/design, cost, time to market or combinations of all these.
Manufacturability requirements like cost, production process and quality control also need to be taken into account during integration as poor decisions made at this stage are later hard and costly to repair.
2M has core strengths in the following areas:
User centric product and interaction design
User interaction design is an essential ingredient during development of a new product, including form, function and user interface. During the design process we closely co-operate with application and marketing partners.
System architecture
The system architecture is a overview of the total system, split into logical functional blocks. The system architecture is derived from the product and user requirements. The split into logical functional blocks determines also the technical interconnects between the various blocks and assists make or buy decisions for key components. This phase also includes initial project planning, development and bill of material cost calculations. Setting up a system architecture also includes reviewing and evaluating specifications aimed at providing an independent point of view to help increase technical and economical feasibility and product quality at an early stage.
System packaging
System packaging is a necessity to protect technology like for example lasers and sensor solutions against harsh environmental conditions like humidity, temperature, mechanical impact and EMC, while still being able to interact with the outside world. System packaging is one of 2M Engineering’s core strengths, which we use in highly advanced opto-electronic modules, Integrated Chip solutions as well as end products.
Industrialization, manufacturing, quality control
2M Engineering can support the whole industrialization process from development to high volume production, including regulatory approvals, process and manufacturing documentation, test equipment and quality control and improvement. Quality improvement during manufacturing is done using structured design of experiment test methodologies in the factory line, leading to field call rate, cost reduction and yield improvement. 2M Engineering also develops factory test equipment, procedures and provides operator training.
